Day 4 | The Day of the Single Speed Challengers

Wednesday, Jan 2
Kilometers Traveled : 75

We woke up to a cold, cold, cold morning. My thighs felt stiff and achy. Even so,  I did not dilly-dally in bed. There were kilometers to cover and more of Vietnam to see!

Today's terrain was rolling, with lots of happy downhills.  The highlights of today's landscape : terraced tea plantations and plywood farms.

Something special happened today too : youngsters gleefully challenged me on their single speeds.  This really made my day! The feistiest of them all was the little girl in the photo below!

So how were the legs on day 2 of the tour? Truth is I really felt my lack of long-riding experience take its toll today. They never really stopped aching, and they couldn't power up even on the flats. Oh how I prayed that my legs wouldn't give up so early in the game!

We arrived at Da Gan, Van Chan province, in time for an early dinner. Right beside the restaurant was a guesthouse - this is where we crashed for the night. What I remember most about this guesthouse was that the beds had canopies over them, and that the hot shower was superb.

Next: Day 5  Da Gan - Tú Lệ
